Devante Parker likely to make his return for Louisville soon

Last time we heard from Louisville Cardinals wide receiver Devante Parker he had suffered a broken foot and it was estimated he would miss up to eight weeks. It was some of the worst news possible for Bobby Petrino in his first year back at Louisville, taking over for Charlie Strong, but now it looks as if there is good news on the horizon as it pertains to Parker’s foot injury and rehab.

It looks like after missing half of the season, Devante Parker is ready to make is 2014 debut for the Cardinals.

On Monday head coach Petrino confirmed that his star receiver had been medically cleared to play this Saturday in the team’s match up against the Clemson Tigers. In a press conference, Petrino was asked by the Courier-Journal in Louisville about Parker’s status and it seems he is expecting him to play.

"“He’s a special talent,” Petrino said. “I think there’s going to be some issues with conditioning. We have to be smart with how we practice him and see where he is.”“All indications are he’ll be ready to go. It just depends on how it goes in practice.”"

Assuming Devante Parker doesn’t suffer any setbacks during practice this week, it sounds like he will be a go. This could be a huge boost for a Louisville team that has been struggling with a sputtering offense while their defense carried them.

Petrino has been known for his high-powered offenses during his coaching career, including during his first tenure at the University of Louisville. That has been far from the case this year while the Cardinals make the transition into the ACC and as they start a gauntlet in their schedule that features a slew of good ACC teams they will need all the weapons they have to be on the field.
