As free agency opened, the Phoenix Suns offered then restricted free agent guard Eric Bledsoe a four-year, $48 million deal. Eric Bledsoe was said to be looking for a five-year max deal, which would have been worth about $80 million. Both sides stood firm and seemed destined for a falling out.

Instead, the two sides finally came to terms before training camp, agreeing to a five-year, $70 million deal.

Now that a deal is done, Eric Bledsoe says he has no hard feelings towards the Suns.

“I just pretty much worked out,” Bledsoe told NBA TV on how he handled the contract situation mentally via Lang Greene of Basketball Insiders. “I love the game of basketball, so I didn’t let that affect me. I worked out all summer and enjoyed it with my family. I let my agent [Rich Paul] handle what he’s good at and that’s handling the business part. That’s what I hired him for. I just stayed out of his way and just worked on what I could do to help the team get better this year.”

Now that Eric Bledsoe has been signed, he’s hoping and the Suns’ young core can take the next step and get back into the postseason.

Eric Bledsoe averaged 17.7 points, 5.5 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 47.7% from the field, 35.7% from beyond the arc and 77.2% from the free throw line last season. In his career, Eric Bledsoe has averaged 8.7 points, 3.4 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 44.5% from the floor, 32.7% from three and 75.8% from the charity stripe.
