England play San Marino this afternoon in a Euro 2016 qualifier. Roy Hodgson, England head coach, has named a strong side for game that is being played at Wembley in London. Danny Welbeck starts up front and will be keen to continue his goal scoring from that he has exhibited with Arsenal. Having only just bagged his first hat-trick in his career, you would put money on him repeating the feat tonight.
Wayne Rooney captains the side and will want his team mates to maintain their professionalism against a weak San Marino side, mainly composed of semi-professional footballers. Their goalkeeper is an accountant and he may well need to be comfortable with high numbers as he is likely to be on the receiving end of a high scoreline.
San Marino have a woeful record in Internation games against the big sides. Their worst humiliation came in a 13-0 defeat by Germany. They have also lost 11-0 to the Netherlands, 10-0 to Norway and Poland, 10-1 to Belgium, and 9-0 to both Ukraine and Spain. At least they managed to score a goal against Belgium. They have lost 8-0 on six occasions, including to England which you can watch below, and conceded seven goals on 10 occasions.
If you are looking for signs that this may be a close encounter, there really aren’t any. England look set to cruise to victory and it will be worth watching just to see how many goals they can rack up.
England Starting XI: Hart; Chambers, Cahill, Jagielka, Gibbs; Henderson, Milner, Wilshere; Welbeck, Rooney, Sterling
Watch the last encounter between England and San Marino, as England embarrassed their opponents, winning 8-0. We could be in for a similar goal fest tonight, with double figures not out of the question.
