Philadelphia Eagles’ running back LeSean McCoy denies taking himself out of the game against the St. Louis Rams

If you listened to Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly, he will tell you that star running back LeSean McCoy took himself out of the game against the St. Louis Rams. While this has been quoted and reported all over the place since Kelly came out and said it on Sunday, his running back has now disputed that claim.

When asked about the situation that had turned into somewhat of a news story, LeSean McCoy told PhillyMag.com that he didn’t take himself off of the field. Instead he says he was pulled out of the game in favor of backup Darren Sproles.

"“What happened was after the game, they asked me do I take myself out when Darren comes in the game, yeah,” McCoy said Wednesday “The majority of the times, I take myself, I’m tired, I come out. Sproles can take over and do his thing, and we’re confident in him to do that. But the last drive, [running backs coach] Duce [Staley] pulled me out.”"

LeSean McCoy even took it a step further in his quotes by saying that he wasn’t at all upset with being yanked by his running backs coach late in the game.

"“I’m OK with it,” McCoy said. “He must have felt like I was tired or whatever the case was. Duce is one of the guys I have tremendous confidence and trust [in]. So whatever he calls or wants to do, I’m totally fine with it. And it’s not like I had 10 carries or 18 carries. So it wasn’t an issue.”"

Whether or not he or his coach is the one telling the truth, it sure seems like LeSean McCoy isn’t harboring any ill feelings regarding the situation. You can expect to see LeSean McCoy get his regular playing time this week for the Eagles and I would bet on him staying in the game this time if the game is on the line once again.
