Former Chicago Bears’ executive Jerry Angelo says the NFL hid hundreds of abuse cases

The NFL has come under fire over the last few months for the way they have handled domestic abuse cases, specifically with former Baltimore Ravens’ running back Ray Ray.
According to former Chicago Bears’ general manager Jerry Angelo, the NFL has hidden “hundreds and hundreds” of domestic abuse charges and he now regrets partaking in sweeping those cases under the rug.
“I made a mistake,’ Angelo told USA TODAY Sports. “I was human. I was part of it. I’m not proud of it.”
Teams would quickly move on after domestic abuse claims because they did not want to be forced to suspend their players and cost their teams games even though they knew they were in the wrong.
“We knew it was wrong,” Angelo said. “…For whatever reason, it just kind of got glossed over. I’m no psychiatrist, so I can’t really get into what that part of it is. I’m just telling you how I was. I’ve got to look at myself first. And I was part of that, but I didn’t stand alone.”
The Bears quickly responded: “We were surprised by Jerry’s comments and do not know what he is referring to.”
Angelo believes the Rice case became so high-profile because the NFL had never seen videos and pictures like they did in this case.
Angelo is unfortunately likely being honest in the situation – what would he have to gain by lying?
We can only hope the NFL has a better grasp on situations like this now.
