Here we go again, Johnny Manziel making headlines for all of the wrong reasons. The first round draft pick by the Cleveland Browns has failed to do anything notable on the field thus far this season, but he has made plenty of noise off of it. Now Manziel is backing suspended Georgia Bulldogs running back, Todd Gurley.
Yesterday, it was announced that Gurley had been handed an indefinite suspension thanks to potential violations of NCAA rules. It seems that Gurley may have sold his autograph and memorabilia for some large amounts of money. Today, the Browns backup quarterback took to Twitter to stand by the Georgia running back.

If you remember, Manziel is all too familiar with the situation that Gurley is in, having been suspended (albeit briefly) for violations of his own. Judging by his tweet, it appears that Manziel believes because he got out of a larger punishment, that Gurley should get the same sort of treatment.
At any rate, things are trending the wrong way for Gurley, now looking as if he could miss the entire season, and Johnny Manziel coming to your defense isn’t something you’d exactly clamor for.
To this point in the NFL, Manziel has appeared much more a juvenile college student missing his frat party days, than a respectable professional striving for playing time. His latest tweet won’t do anything to dispel those feelings.
While the NCAA continues to be somewhat of a joke of an organization, and as trivial as the rules may seem, the easiest way to continue business as usual is to follow them. The NFL won’t knock Gurley down their draft boards due to a what many consider a silly college rule, but Gurley may have just thrown his Heisman chance away. For him, that is something that would have paid so much more in the long run.
The concept remains simple, regardless how silly, playing within the rules and avoiding trouble is always going to be the easiest way to achieve your goals.
