The Chicago Bears will have their depth tested at the linebacker position with Lance Briggs joining Shea McClellin on the list of players ruled out for their Week 6 game against the Atlanta Falcons

Lance Briggs has been the one constant on the Bears defense the last two seasons with Brian Urlacher retired, Charles Tillman out for the season for the second straight season and Julius Peppers a salary cap casualty this offseason.

However, now the Bears defense will look radically different without No. 55 at his usual weak-side linebacker position on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons as the Chicago Bears have ruled out Briggs because of a rib injury.

Joining Briggs on the sidelines for Sunday’s game in Atlanta is starting strong-side linebacker Shea McClellin who continues to inch closer to a return from his broken hand that will keep him out for the fourth straight game.

Complicating matters even more for the Bears is the questionable status for Jon Bostic after he missed Friday’s practice with a back injury.

With Briggs out, undrafted free agent Christion Jones out of Florida State is expected to start at the weak-side spot and if Bostic is unable to suit up that would likely mean that second-year linebacker Khaseem Greene would get the start at the strong-side.

And if Bostic is unable to suit up that would mean recently signed Darryl Sharpton could be pressed in to meaningful snaps for the Bears defense against the high-powered Falcons offense consisting of Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and Roddy White.
