LeSean McCoy and other NFL running back jersey sales are not doing so well these days

In recent years we’ve come to learn that NFL coaches aren’t too keen on the running back position, at least not as much as they used to be. Because of the beatings they endure, the shelf life of a person at the position in the league is not all that flattering. Therefore, teams have found ways around focusing on the running back position, such as the implementations of the spread offenses as of late, as we see with LeSean McCoy in the Eagles system.
Well, not only are running backs taking a hit on the field with their stock, but their jersey sales are also not that promising neither.
According to the most recent DICK’S Sporting Goods Jersey Report, which reflects sales both nationwide and online, the sales of running back jerseys are taking a hit.
Below is a photo of sales so far this season, and as you can clearly tell, in that Top 10 there is only one running back on the list and that is Philadelphia Eagles speedster LeSean McCoy.
One running back surrounded by a plethora of quarterbacks is all the eye-opener you need. There are other notable running backs in the league other than McCoy, they’re just not having their jerseys fly off the shelves.
For Week 4, only 11% of all sales were from running backs.
It’s not as if there are not running backs in the league without big-name notoriety. But, when you look down the list, you won’t see another running back until Matt Forte of the Chicago Bears comes in at No. 19. After that, you’ll find the Kansas City Chiefs’ all-everything man, Jamaal Charles at the No. 29 slot. Three running backs in the top 30 really puts things into perspective.
As the season goes on, this will be quite the interesting trend to keep an eye on.
