Although the New York Knicks feel very good about their offseason after hiring Phil Jackson as president and Derek Fisher as head coach, dealing Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton for a package that includes Jose Calderon and most importantly, re-signed Carmelo Anthony, the New York Knicks know they don’t have enough talent on the roster.

However, with big men Amar’e Stoudemire and Andra Bargnani set to come off of the books at the end of the season, many believe the New York Knicks will be major players in free agency.

Moke Hamilton of Basketball Insiders believes the New York Knicks are in good position to land big-time talents in the future.

"Everything I have heard suggests that the Knicks want to make a run at Kevin Durant in July 2016 but I do not believe they will hold their money to do that. I think that if they have an opportunity to land big-time talents before then, they will spend. Either way, they will have the flexibility to build around Carmelo… The real question is how many more years Carmelo will be able to play at an elite level…But yes, there are worse teams to be right now than the New York Knicks."

Durant may be a bit of a long-shot for the Knicks but plenty of other players can become free agents in the next two years. Portland Trail Blazers’ big man LaMarcus Aldridge and Memphis Grizzlies’ are the top options in 2015 while Durant headlines an absolutely loaded class in 2016.
