The Texas Rangers have the final two interviews today for their search for a full-time manager to replace Ron Washington, and reports indicate interim manager Tim Bogar is still the frontrunner to land the job.

The Texas Rangers interviewed one candidate for their open managerial position yesterday and today plan to interview the final two candidates to replace former manager Ron Washington, who resigned in September. Alex Cora and interim manager Tim Bogar will interview today and Jeff Wilson of the Star-Telegram reports Tim Bogar remains the frontrunner for the full-time job.

The Rangers’ front office seemed pleased with how Tim Bogar handled the final month of the season for Texas; the injury-ravaged Rangers finished the season strong, ending with a 14-8 record. Hiring Tim Bogar could also potentially allow the Rangers to retain highly-regarded pitching coach Mike Maddux, as although Maddux is also interviewing for the Texas manager’s job and others, he’s said he wishes to remain with the Rangers. Of course, that could change if the right team offers him a job.

A second round of interviews is likely for any finalists for the Rangers job, and the candidates already interviewed include Maddux, Rangers Triple-A manager Steve Buechele, Boston Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo, Chicago White Sox third base coach Joe McEwing, Cleveland Indians bullpen coach Kevin Cash, who interviewed Thursday, Alex Cora and Tim Bogar. It’s believed the Texas front office would like to have a manager in place by the World Series.
