A win is a win, I guess. The Texas defense did an outstanding job on shutting down the Oklahoma offense. Oklahoma had just 29 yards in the first half. 29! In fact, Texas outgained the Sooners by 250 yards in the game. That is the most any team has been outgained this year in a victory. If you take away Oklahoma’s big kickoff return and interception return for a touchdown, they likely lose this game. And you can bet that all future opponents will try to do the same thing to the Sooners that TCU and Texas did. Texas’s defensive scheme worked despite the loss.

This might only be the beginning of the slide for BYU. The injuries kept piling up for the Cougars against Central Florida. CB Jordan Johnson, S Craig Bills, and RB Jamal Williams all left the game with injuries. Williams and injured LB Alani Fua should be back for next weekend, but there are still a lot of missing pieces due to injury for the beat up Cougars. The good news is that backup QB Christian Stewart had a solid game after a rocky start.

Congratulations are in order for UNLV. They beat Fresno State for the first time in 30 years. That’s right, they hadn’t beaten the Bulldogs since Randall Cunningham was under center for the Rebels.

That Stanford defense is impressive. The offense? Well, it’s still a work in progress.

Those teams that played Miami in September should be glad that they drew the Hurricanes then. The offense is improving rapidly. It has a lot to do with the improvement of the offensive line, and the decision making of quarterback Brad Kaaya. They likely won’t turn a lot of heads this year, but next year, look out!

Florida State looked methodical in their beatdown of Syracuse. However, it has to be nice for the Seminoles and their fans to see Jameis Winston play like a Heisman winner again.

Melvin Gordon may be the front-runner in the Heisman race, but will they really choose someone from a team with three or more losses? Gordon now has 871 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on the season, but he has the misfortune of playing for a team that can’t throw the ball.

Indiana has a lot of weapons on offense, but that defense will keep them out of a bowl game. Even an Iowa team that has had all sorts of issues on offense racked up 38 points in the first half and 426 total yards in the game. The defense for the Hawkeyes was business as usual, but they did give up their share of big plays.

Marshall may have jumped their biggest hurdle with their dismantling of Middle Tennessee State. The only question now is will the Herd get into the New Year’s Six if they run the table?

It was fun while it lasted for Louisiana-Monroe. They actually led Kentucky 14-0 in the first quarter before the Wildcats rattled off 48 unanswered points.

Congratulations to Massachusetts as well. They snapped the longest current losing streak against FBS teams at 12 with their throttling of Kent State.

Duke’s maligned defense was able to stop a furious comeback by Georgia Tech to keep pace in the Coastal division. This was the first time that Duke has beaten the Yellow Jackets in ten years, and their first win over Tech in Atlanta since 1994.

Georgia is just fine without Todd Gurley. They have the fortune of being one of the deepest teams at RB in college. They proved it today with a dominant showing against Missouri. This is obviously not the same team as last year. Heck, Maty Mauk doesn’t even look like the same quarterback. The Bulldogs picked him off four times, and held him to 9-21 passing for just 97 yards.
