New Orleans Saints guard Jahri Evans didn’t like an analysis of his performance from Times-Picayune reporter Larry Holder. But Evans should have done his homework.

Professional football players always preach about the importance of preparation. Before engaging in a Twitter beef with Times-Picayune reporter Larry Holder, New Orleans Saints guard Jahri Evans should have remembered that.

Holder, in a film study piece on the Saints’ overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, called out Evans for his play much of the game against Bucs’ defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, while also giving him credit for a pair of big plays.

Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy chewed up Evans for much of the game, and yet Evans steamrolled two Bucs defenders on touchdowns for Pierre Thomas and the game-winner for Khiry Robinson.

Later, Holder references Evans again.

Evans remains one of the better guards in the NFL, but McCoy kicked Evans’ butt more often than I ever would have imagined.

Maybe I just underestimated McCoy, who’s one of the premier defensive tackles in the league. There were several plays where McCoy sped past Evans. McCoy also beat Evans to help induce (Drew) Brees’ first interception.

Evans was not impressed and took to his Twitter account to tell Holder so:

Holder’s response was pure Internet gold:

Holder earned the award as part of the staff at the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun-Herald for the paper’s coverage of Hurricane Katrina.

So defensive tackles weren’t the only people who made it a bad week for Evans.
