The Utah Jazz want Enes Kanter to take more 3-pointers this season
The NBA is fazing out big men in favor of guys who can shoot from the perimeter, and new Utah Jazz Quinn Snyder is hoping Enes Kanter can adjust.

The modern NBA utilized analytics and found that shooting the more efficient shots–three’s and under the rim–rather than less-efficient mid-range shots greatly impacts the success of players and teams. With Snyder implementing a new system emphasizing spacing, he will be trying to utilize his current talent in a new way.
One of those things will be having Kanter, the Jazz center who has taken just three 3-pointers in his first three seasons, shooting more from the perimeter. From Jody Genessy of the Deseret News.
"“Coach Q came to visit me and we went to a gym. He said, ‘You know you’re going to shoot some threes this year, right?’ ” Kanter said, smiling. “I was just like shocked that the first time he met me he gave me that confidence. It means a lot to me.”“I’ve been working really hard on the three,” Kanter said. “My teammates and my coaches give me that confidence. I really appreciate it.”"
As outlined here by Clint Peterson on FanSided’s PurpleandBlues.com, the Jazz will be implementing plenty of horns packages this season that put their bigs–namely Kanter and Derrick Favors–out on the perimeter to create spacing for the guards to penetrate the paint.
This doesn’t work if the big man can’t shoot from three, because defenses won’t play up on him. So Kanter got some coaching from one of Utah’s all-time best 3-point shooters, Mehmet Okur.
Kanter is entering his fourth NBA season, and now is time for him to make a leap in terms of his development. Snyder’s approach is causing some excitement in Utah and hopefully for Kanter, he can capitalize on this. He does have a lot of work to do, though.
