NFL owners contemplate harsher penalties for personal conduct violations.
It seems as though the NFL has been in the headlines for mostly the wrong reasons so far this season, and the owners are getting tired of it.

According to Fox Sports, at the NFL’s fall meetings, the owners discussed the possibility of stripping draft picks from teams that had repeated issues with players violating the NFL’s code of conduct. The league hopes that this would prevent teams from taking risks on players with a history of off-field issues.
Surprisingly enough, the owners are on board with this, and for good reason. The recent string of domestic violence cases is hurting the league’s bottom line. Especially since once of the league’s most marketable players, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, is in the midst of one of the cases involving child abuse.
Currently the league forces the teams to pay some of the suspended players’ salary to the league for remittance for multiple violations. Obviously, this is not enough of a deterrent. The issues just keep piling up.
The proposal for the taking of draft picks would also be for multiple violations. Would it make enough of a difference for teams to pass on the upside of someone like Aaron Hernandez or Adam “Pacman” Jones? If you start taking picks away from teams, it is entirely possible.
Sometimes the owners just need a little push to do the right thing. In this case, doing the right thing is trying to keep the NFL out of the headlines for the wrong reasons, and get them back to being the most successful professional league on the planet. Taking draft picks as compensation for disorderly conduct by players would likely go a long way towards doing that.
