The NFL is discussing changes to its personal conduct policy.

The NFL and leaders from its player’s union met Tuesday to discuss possible changes for the league’s personal conduct policy, according to the AP.

The two sides decided they would continue to discuss changes. Player’s union head DeMaurice Smith said that his side is seeking due process for players.

"“While the league currently has great concern for its brand, fairness and justice for our members is more important,” Smith said.“For us, the starting point for these discussions must be the desire to agree upon a fair personal conduct policy and domestic violence rules from a standpoint of prevention and education. We will not accept a world where all players are viewed as perpetrators first and husbands, fathers, sons and brothers second.”"

Tuesday’s meeting appears to be a good sign towards alterations being made, but the AP is reporting a potential problem could be NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s unwillingness to cede power in disciplinary decisions. The union wants a neutral party to have the decision-making power.

Many fans would likely agree that Goodell giving up power is likely best for the league and would result in better decisions made, but people in Goodell’s position typically aren’t keen about letting that type of responsibility go.

The NFL has mishandled many disciplinary matters in recent months, such as Ray Rice’s domestic abuse incident, so hopefully Goodell changes his mind and relents here.
