4. My dream of a winless season is still alive!

I have to level with you: one of my favorite teams in NFL history was the 2008 Detroit Lions. Yes, the same Lions team that went 0-16. After Week 4, I watched every one of their games from start to finish. No, I’m not a Lions fan, or a sadist, I just tuned in every week to see how they were going to blow it. Since then I’ve been hoping, wishing and praying for another winless team to entertain the hell out of me. And right now we’ve got the best candidate in years.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are terrible, absolutely, unequivocally, spectacularly terrible. The Jags are 0-6, have a roster littered with guys who would struggle to make my flag football team, a rookie quarterback and a league-worst point differential (minus-104). While normally I’d be worried because of how mediocre the AFC South is, it shouldn’t matter this year. There are zero games remaining on the schedule that Jacksonville should win. While the Oakland Raiders are also winless at 0-5, they have actually looked like they might pull a win out somewhere and gave the Chargers a solid game on Sunday.

The Jags currently rank 23rd in pass offense (220.5 yards per game), 32nd in rushing offense (69.5 ypg), 30th in pass defense (294.0 ypg) and 19th in rushing defense (117.2 ypg). They are dead last in total offense (290.0 ypg) and 30th in total defense (411.2 ypg). They are allowing 30.8 points per game and scoring a league-worst 13.5. If you couldn’t tell, I’m writing all of this with a huge smile on my face.

On Sunday, the Jaguars lost to a horrible Tennessee Titans led by Charlie Whitehurst, 16-14. How did that happen? Because the Jaguars let the Titans block a field goal with 12 second left, that’s how! It was beautiful. It was ineptitude perfectly executed at the highest levels.

The Jags host the Cleveland Browns on Sunday and you can bet I’ll be watching every snap.
