Colin Kaepernick: ‘I Don’t Know What I’m Being Fined For’
By Sam Richmond
49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is confused as to why he was fined more than $5000 by the NFL.
The NFL originally fined San Francisco 49ers quarterback $11,025 for using a racial slur towards Chicago Bears pass-rusher Lamar Houston during Week 2. But upon further investigation, the NFL found that Kaepernick did not use a racial slur and his fine was reduced. However, the fine wasn’t reduced all the way and Kaepernick still owes the league more than $5000.
Confused as to why Kaepernick is still on the hook for a fine? So is he.
Kaepernick also took to Instagram to display his surprise, posting a picture of him from a media session and writing, “The face you make when the NFL says you didn’t use a racial slur and still fines you $5500? *shrugs* back to my grind! #IDontGetTired #WhoDoYouLove #Se7enPounds.”
The NFL says it fined Kaepernick for using a general profanity.
The Niners quarterback probably should have avoided a fine here. Profanity occurs frequently during NFL games, so why is Kaepernick being singled out here?
It’s certainly fair for Kaepernick to be displeased with the fine, though the NFL likely isn’t pleased about how he is voicing that displeasure.
Kaepernick has thrown for 10 touchdowns and four interceptions so far this season.
