Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell was scheduled to have a hearing take place in regards to his arrest in August on marijuana and DUI charges. However, that won’t be happening now, as his lawyer has informed the Associated Press that his client has waived his right to that hearing.
With this, Bell must now either plead to the charges or stand trial. More than likely, Bell will plea for some sort of deal.
Back on August 20, Bell and fellow Pittsburgh running back LeGarrette Blount were stopped just outside of the city. When the motorcycle officer approached the car, he could smell marijuana and Blount and Bell were arrested.
Both running backs were not disciplined by the team and have not missed any time on the field, however if Bell is convicted of the DUI charge, then he will face a two-game suspension under the NFL’s policy.
This season, Bell has rushed for 542 yards, making him the second-leading rusher in the entire league. So should he miss two games if convicted, it would be a huge loss for a Steelers team that is struggling mightily this season.
