The New England Patriots survived with a 27-25 win over the New York Jets Thursday night when Chris Jones blocked Nick Folk’s 58-yard field goal attempt on the final play.

The New England Patriots got two touchdowns from Shane Vereen Thursday night and survived a long field-goal try on the final play of the game to beat the New York Jets at Gillette Stadium 27-25.

Chris Jones blocked the kick and the ball rolled to a stop as time expired, with the Patriots avoiding the Leon Lett mistake of touching the kick after it crossed the line of scrimmage.

Chandler Jones had a big night for the Patriots’ defense, finishing with four tackles, a sack, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hits and a blocked kick.

The Patriots improved to 5-2 with the win, while Gang Green dropped its sixth straight game to go to 1-6. The Jets’ only victory came in Week 1 over the winless Oakland Raiders.

New England took an eight-point lead with 7:49 to go on this touchdown pass from Tom Brady to Danny Amendola for 19 yards.

With 2:21 remaining, Smith found Jeff Cumberland for a 10-yard touchdown pass to cut the Patriots’ lead to two points, but overthrew Jace Amaro on the two-point conversion.

Folk’s onside kick bounced off the legs of New England’s Brandon LaFell, but was recovered by Amendola after a scramble.

The Jets dominated the game in many ways, with 40:54 in time of possession and 28 first downs, finishing with 423 total yards.

Chris Ivory had a big game for New York, finishing with 107 yards on 21 carries. Ivory had a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that gave the Jets their last lead at 19-17.

Smith was 20-for-34 for 226 yards and a touchdown.

Tom Brady wasn’t great, finishing 20-for-37 for 261 yards, but he had three touchdowns. There were no turnovers in the game.

The Jets are off until Oct. 26, when they host the Buffalo Bills. New England hosts the Chicago Bears on Oct. 26.
