Panthers coach Ron Rivera did not appreciate NFLPA president Eric Winston’s criticisms of him.
Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera caught some heat for referring to receiver Kelvin Benjamin’s concussion as “mild” and suggesting that the media was to blame for concussion issues lingering. The most vocal critic of Rivera? NFLPA president Eric Winston.

Winston took to Twitter obliterate the Panthers coach.

Rivera has now responded to Winston’s critique and discussed Benjamin’s status.

"“I didn’t say he didn’t have a concussion,” Rivera told PFT by phone on Thursday afternoon. “What I said was based off what the doctors told me.”While there are degrees of concussions, the increased sensitivity to brain injuries has prompted many to cringe when hearing any concussion dubbed “mild.” But that doesn’t mean that “mild” concussions never happen. For Benjamin and any player with a concussion, the key word isn’t “mild” or “moderate” or “severe” but “concussion.”“He’s in the concussion protocol,” Rivera said. “He’s being treated like everyone else in the concussion protocol.”"
Rivera seems to be missing the point here. Winston never suggested that Rivera said Benjamin didn’t have a concussion. The NFLPA head was simply saying that Rivera seemed ignorant about the topic of concussions, and it’s hard to argue with that based on the Panthers coach’s comments.
