NFL commissioner Roger Goodell recently met with former NFL player Chris Valletta to discuss changes to the league’s personal conduct policy. Goodell was eager to make positive change and Valletta came away impressed.
After a string of off-field incidents led to negative publicity for the NFL, commissioner Roger Goodell took steps to begin improving the league’s outdated personal conduct policy.

Coming into the meeting, former NFL player Chris Valletta admitted that he was unsure of what to expect from the commissioner, but he was quickly impressed.
“When we went in, the goal was to address the personal conduct policy and get ahead of future issues that might arise and to make significant changes,” Valletta told FanSided in an interview. “Going into the meeting I wasn’t very sure what to expect of Roger Goodell, other than just what I’ve seen on television and what I’ve heard from the people I know.”
But after meeting with Goodell, it was hard for Valletta not to be impressed.
Valletta seemed to notice a very engaged Goodell, who has a fire in his belly to take the right steps forward and ensure that the league policies are improved.
“I would say that coming out of the meeting I am convinced there is no one better to serve in that position, and to lead the NFL through this time. He was so engaged, he was so, just, present in this meeting, He discussed every topic we brought up, he debated every topic, he agreed to disagree. He took 10 pages front and back of notes, he just didn’t stop writing,” Valletta added.
“I’ve been with a few big-hitters in my time, and he’s one of them, and I’ve never seen somebody so engaged in a meeting.“
It is a positive sign for the league that Goodell is willing to take such positive steps forward and it goes to show that there will be many people supporting the commissioner despite calls for his resignation.
While Goodell may have dropped the ball with his initial handling of the off-field incidents — specifically the Ray Rice situation — Goodell is working hard to make sure the league is in position to avoid the slip-ups from happening again.
