Can Percy Harvin Turn His Career Around With Jets?
By Evan Massey
Can Percy Harvin turn his career around with the New York Jets after disappointing in Seattle?
The New York Jets acquired wide receiver Percy Harvin from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a mid-round pick, and it was a move that shocked the entire NFL. Harvin has long been considered one of Seattle’s most dangerous offensive weapons, but he hasn’t been able to live up to that hype this season at all.

New York has been having some major struggles with their offense as well, and second-year quarterback Geno Smith needed another legitimate receiver to throw to. Harvin will immediately step in as the Jets’ number one receiver, and will have every chance in the world to turn his season back around and prove himself once again.
Can Harvin take the step and turn his career back around with the Jets this year?
Quite simply, his tenure with the Seahawks has ended up being a massive disappointment. He had shown the potential to be one of the best playmakers in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings, but health issues completely derailed him in Seattle. Even when he was on the field, it seemed that he was already banged up or there were major concerns about his health moving forward.
Harvin has played in five regular season games this season, catching 22 passes for 133 yards and no touchdowns. Needless to say, those numbers are not impressive from the outside looking in. He has also been rumored to have anger management issues, which have been listed as one of the main reasons for Seattle trading him away.
Now he is with the Jets, who are desperately searching for someone who can spark their offense. They are sitting at 1-6 and last in the AFC East division. Eric Decker is currently their leading receiver with 24 catches for 323 yards and three touchdowns. Obviously those numbers aren’t very impressive either, and Harvin has a major opportunity to come in and get used in a much bigger role than he was in Seattle.
Defenses have begun taking away the deep ball from Harvin, which has made him very inconsistent. The Seahawks haven’t used him too much as a speedster across the middle or in screen plays, and that might be what New York has to do to get the football into his hands. That being said, they are more than willing to do whatever it takes to bring him on board and make this trade a success.
When everything is said and done, Harvin has the final word in the matter. Will he figure out how to get open and become a success in New York? Or will he continue down the disappointing path that his career has been taking?
It’s certainly something to keep an eye on, but there is no denying the talent and potential that Harvin has. He will have to be the big play threat that the Jets are desperately needing, and he will answer the call. Expect to see a much improved Harvin following this trade, and for the Jets to get him back on track and putting up big numbers each and every week.
