Both teams played hard in the first half and it was very even heading into the break, but Michigan State came out in the second half and put the game away quickly. Indiana had to play with third-string quarterback Zander Diamont, and it simply didn’t end up working out. Connor Cook on the other hand had a huge game for the Spartans, and led his team to victory.
Cook ended up completing 24 of his 32 passing attempts, compiling 332 yards, three touchdowns, and also throwing an interception. Both Nick Hill and Jeremy Lankford, with 178 yards and a touchdown and 109 yards and three touchdowns respectively. Tony Lippett led the Spartans in receiving with seven catches for 123 yards.
Diamont start the game and ended up completing five of his 15 passes for just 11 yards. He didn’t throw a touchdown or an interception either. Tevin Coleman once again had a big game and surpassed 100 yards rushing for the ninth straight game, carrying the football 15 times for 132 yards. Shane Wynn also took a carry 75 yards for a touchdown off of an end-around.
This was a very disappointing loss for the Hoosiers, and they let an opportunity slip away. Michigan State on the other hand was able to take care of business and move to 6-1 on the season. Indiana is now sitting at 3-4 on the year and will need at least three more wins to be able to contend for a bowl game. That being said, they have a very long road ahead of them with their quarterback situation.
