I always hate this time of year. This is the time when I have to admit that Oklahoma is once again not a championship caliber team. Their defense got picked apart by Jake Waters and Kansas State. Even normally automatic kicker Michael Hunnicut missed two field goals, and had an extra point blocked that was the difference in the game. This loss is not on Knight this time. He actually had a great game aside from the four yard interception return for a touchdown, but he doesn’t call the plays. That was just an awful play call. I understand that the Wildcats were shutting down the running game, but Knight’s arm is not strong enough to complete an out pass to the long side of the field without the CB jumping the route. As a coach, you have to understand your player’s weaknesses. I’m not sure ours do. Knight completed 26-32 passes for 318 yards and three touchdowns. With a line like that, you should be able to win the game. The defense and the kicker let the offense down. Perine and Ross are both very good backs, and the K-State defense played very tough up front. They couldn’t really keep Shepard under wraps, but who can? Shephard set a school record with 15 receptions. This is the first back-to-back wins in Norman for K-State since 1994 and 1997.
At first, I wasn’t sure how good of a fit that West Virginia was for the Big 12(10). It is apparent that they are a really good fit. They have a nice little rivalry with Baylor, and it showed today. Big plays and penalties were abundant. Baylor committed a whopping 11 penalties in the first half alone! The West Virginia defense stepped up big in the second half, and actually shut out the Bears in the fourth quarter en route to the upset of the number four Bears.
Purdue might be the most improved team over the last six weeks. After struggling with Western Michigan and losing to Central Michigan, the Boilermakers beat Illinois, put up 31 points on Michigan State, and today they gave Minnesota all they could handle. An improving Purdue is good for the conference. Now if they could only do something about Illinois….. This was Minnesota’s first win while trailing at halftime under Jerry Kill. That is an amazing stat when you think about it.
Maryland‘s defense still give up a ton of big plays, but the team somehow finds a way to win. The defense came up big with a fourth quarter pick six to put them up ten points to beat one of the favorite in the Big Ten West in Iowa.

Never underestimate just how bad the Virginia Tech offense can be……
We are getting to see what Houston sees in Greg Ward Jr. right now. Temple has had an outstanding defense all season long, and Ward carved them up with relative ease. This is what we expected to see with John O’Korn under center, but it has been Ward, not O’Korn, who has kicked this offense into gear.
