7-12.
That is the Florida Gators‘ record in their last 19 games under Will Muschamp, which is unacceptable for one of college football‘s elite programs.
After going 11-1 in the regular season in only Will Muchamp’s second year on the job, the Gators had very high hopes. Then, the Gators lost the 2013 Sugar Bowl to the Louisville Cardinals, went 4-8 last season and are just 3-3 this season. During that span, Florida fans have had to watch their arch rivals, the Florida State Seminoles, win 23 games in a row, including last season’s BCS National Championship, making an angry fan base even more restless.
If Florida’s loss to Georgia Southern last season was the low point, their loss to Missouri this weekend can’t be far behind. Despite giving up only 119 yards, Florida was destroyed by Missouri 42-13, prompting the fans that didn’t leave to start a “Fire Muschamp” chant.
The school continues to stick behind their coach and reports indicate he won’t be fired, at least not before Florida’s next game, their annual showdown with the rival Georgia Bulldogs, in Jacksonville, on November 1. Florida will enjoy a much-needed week off this weekend.
On Monday, Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley released a statement through the school.
“At the beginning of the season we said we would evaluate the season as it plays out,” Foley said in a statement released by the university on Monday. “We will continue to do so. Our sole focus right now is supporting our coaching staff as they prepare for Georgia.”
Looks like Will Muschamp’s job is safe… for two more weeks.
