Arizona State expects quarterback Taylor Kelly to start in the Sun Devils game against the Washington Huskies after missing the last three games with a foot injury

One of the more underrated quarterbacks in college football is preparing to make his return to the football field as Taylor Kelly is expected to start for No. 17 Arizona State against Washington on Saturday.

Kelly has missed the last three games after he injured his foot late in the win against the Colorado Buffaloes as the Sun Devils went 2-1 with Mike Bercovici starting in place of last year’s Pac-12 conference second team signal-caller.

Bercovici lost his first start to the UCLA Bruins when he threw for 488 yards and three touchdowns, but his two interceptions and lost fumble were key reasons for the team’s 62-27 loss to their Pac-12 foe.

Bercovici rebounded with a 510-yard, five-touchdown performance in the next game against the USC Trojans when he completed a Hail Mary to Jaelen Strong for the game-winning score and played steady in last week’s win against the Stanford Cardinal.

Kelly, however, was not in danger of being usurped by Bercovici on the depth chart and will be behind center as they look to improve to 6-1 on the year and 4-1 in the Pac-12. Kelly has 625 passing yards and six touchdowns on the year without throwing an interception and is second on the team in rushing to D.J. Foster with 168 yards and two touchdowns.
