Days after seeing Percy Harvin traded could the NFL see another trade involving a high-profile wide receiver in Vincent Jackson?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are off to a miserable 1-5 start in Love Smith’s first season as the head coach and that has got the rumor mill churning that the team could trade off some veteran players, including Vincent Jackson, to expedite their rebuilding process.

Following the trade of Percy Harvin from the Seattle Seahawks to the New York Jets for a conditional sixth round pick on Friday, NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport mentioned the name of the veteran and former Pro Bowl performer as a possible player who could be dealt before the trade deadline.

The 6-5, 230-pound Jackson has 25 receptions for 344 yards and two touchdowns this season and is coming off his second straight season with more than 1,200 yards and seven touchdowns as a Buccaneer.

Lovie addressed the speculation at his Monday afternoon press conference to say the team is not shopping any players.

This is the standard statement coaches or front office executives give when they are asked about players involved in trade rumors. Sure, if the Buccaneers were offered a first round pick for Jackson they would likely hop on that offer in a second, but those offers aren’t coming, so Lovie has that for a comment.

The Buccaneers are 1-5 with the league’s second worst point differential and their 120 points are the third fewest scored this year as the team has had Josh McCown and Mike Glennon start at quarterback this year.

Jackson turns 32 at the end of the year and is one of the highest paid players in the league, so for a team going nowhere fast, it would make sense for Tampa Bay to consider moving him, whether a trade actually happens or not remains to be seen, but they’d be short-sighted not to consider moving him for a long term asset at a friendly salary.
