Kevin Garnett has the stomach flu and won’t travel to Boston for the Nets final preseason game against the Celtics.

Kevin Garnett won’t see any playing time for the remainder of the NBA preseason as Lionel Hollins has already ruled out the 20 year veteran for the Brooklyn Nets last preseason game against the Boston Celtics with stomach flu. The Nets are hopeful that Garnett will be good to go in eight days when the Nets open the season in Boston against the Celtics, but for now what Garnett needs to focus on is getting back to 100 percent.

Brook Lopez also won’t be playing for the rest of the preseason, the only difference is that Garnett’s is an illness that will heal on its own, Lopez’s is a foot sprain on his surgically repaired right foot. Both Lopez and Garnett are expected to be active on opening night so the Nets aren’t too concerned.

Kevin Garnett got off to a slow start last season, but he claimed that it was due to his lack of preparation before the season. Garnett prepared nice and early this time around and when he did play during the preseason he looked crisp and effective. This is likely Garnett’s last season so expect him to leave everything out on the court like he usually does. Whether it’s a preseason game or a playoff game, Garnett is always heard barking orders and tips to his teammates and he is still one of the best leaders in NBA history.

At age 38 Garnett won’t win any more MVP awards, but he is still a vital part to this Nets team. Garnett served as a mentor to Mason Plumlee last season and expect him to do the same to the other young players such as Bojan Bogdanovic, Markel Brown and Cory Jefferson. Garnett told reporters at media day that he was passive last season, but he vowed that he will be in full attack mode and aggressive this season.
