Buster Posey

Buster Posey is the default “favorite”, at least by Bovada, with 8-to-1 odds to take home the trophy. That is interesting for a number of reasons, but chief among them is that Posey was actually dreadful during San Francisco’s NLCS win. In the five games and 23 plate appearances, the star catcher managed only four singles, and as a result, his OPS was an unsightly .461 for the series.

With that on the table, the now 27-year-old Posey is the best offensive player on the Giants roster, and that makes him a legitimate candidate. For the season, Posey posted an impressive .311/.364/.490 slash line with 22 home runs in 147 games, and when combining that with solid defense behind the plate, it isn’t difficult to see that he is exceedingly “valuable” to the Giants as a whole.

As with anyone, it will take a Herculean effort (and perhaps a clutch moment or two) for any position player to win the trophy, but Buster Posey has the tools for it.
