Not many people would consider Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler an elite signal caller. Former Bears great Brian Urlacher is one of them, unless we’re talking about Cutler’s salary.

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was given a fresh new seven-year contract earlier this season worth in the area of $126 million. Since that news, people have debated whether or not his play on the field has warranted such a lucrative salary, and Brian Urlacher has a few thoughts on the matter.

Not only does Urlacher have some thoughts on the matter, but he’s pretty straightforward about it.

Urlacher does indeed believe that Cutler is elite if we’re talking about his bank account. But as far as earning it on the field with his play, well, the former Bears linebacker doesn’t agree with that one bit.

Via the Chicago Sun-Times:

“Financially, he is one of the elite guys in the NFL … he just hasn’t produced like an elite quarterback,” the former linebacker said on 87.7 FM The Game. “You look at the Bradys, the Mannings, the Rodgers, the Brees, those guys win every year, even with no one around them.

“Rodgers has no offensive line. He wins. Brady has no receivers. He wins.

“And you look at Jay. He’s got Brandon (Marshall), Alshon (Jeffery), Matt (Forte), this great offensive line, Martellus Bennett, and they can’t seem to put it together, for some reason. I’m not sure if that’s his fault, but for some reason they just can’t figure it out.”

The Bears are 3-4 this season and Cutler has thrown for 1,866 yards and 14 touchdowns. However, he can’t shake the turnover issues that have plagued him throughout his career, as he’s tossed seven interceptions as well.

As far as the team not putting it together, as Urlacher alluded to, the chemistry on this team is nearly non-existent as a few prominent members of the team got into a squabble in the locker room following the team’s 27-14 loss to Dolphins this past Sunday.
