Last season the New York Knicks had a team wide problem of not understanding time and score which led to some really awful shots. First it was Andrea Bargnani taking a shot when the Knicks could have dribbled out a win. Then J.R. Smith did basically the same thing except with the game tied which ultimately led to a Knicks loss at the buzzer.
The team surely thought they had things like when to shoot the ball figured out but as J.R. showed us tonight there is still room to go when he busted out a half-court runner/jumper thing with four seconds left in the third quarter. At least J.R. seems to know that it was a bad shot as he immediately slumps his shoulders down in disappointment, though knowing J.R. it could very well be just the reaction to missing.
The rest of the Knicks meanwhile can continue to work on their time recognition as they still have five quarters of the preseason left with tonight’s fourth quarter and Friday’s game against the Toronto Raptors. Maybe by the All-Star break they will have broken the habit of shots taken at the complete worst times.
Except J.R., he will gun forever and ever because J.R. is gonna do what J.R. does.
