For a good amount of the past few years wrestling fans have been clamoring for John Cena to get rid of his positive ways and turn to the dark side. In wrestling terms, the majority of fans want to see Cena turn heel.
Of course, even when we think it might be coming, it never does. Cena always stays the course with his “Never Give Up” attitude and his pandering to the younger fan base.
But what does Cena think about maybe making a turn? Well in a much-publicized interview recently with Variety discussing his transition to Hollywood, Cena debunked any notion that he would turn heel, simply because it’s bad for business.
“When you do that, everything you said, everything you stand for gets erased. It’s a poor business decision.”
While people might not want to hear this, he’s right.
Cena’s merchandise sales are through the roof and he brings a ton of exposure to the company. Plus, of course, you have to factor in the major Make-A-Wish contributions that he provides. Whether you like the character of John Cena or not, you have to admit that it’s incredible what he does for those kids on a near daily basis.
Will there ever come a time where we will see Cena turn his back on the fans? Maybe. We’ve all learned to never say never with this business. However, given his age, time is running out to create an effective heel run.
