The New York Knicks are only one season removed from a team that finished second in the

NBA

‘s Eastern Conference, finishing 54-28 and even won a playoff series, taking down the

Boston Celtics

in six games.

Although they went just 37-45 last year and missed the playoffs and center Tyson Chandler is now with the Dallas Mavericks, they are hoping for a return to the playoffs this year.

One player who could be key for the Knicks if they do get back to the postseason is guard Iman Shumpert. He has been studying and working on the new triangle offense being implemented by head coach Derek Fisher and president Phil Jackson.

” I do know that Iman Shumpert worked his butt off over the offseason, doing two-a-days at IMG in Bradenton, FL,” Kennedy writes. “He read every book that Phil Jackson has written and studied the triangle offense so that he’d be ready to contribute when the season starts. Shump loves New York and he realizes that this is his chance to make a solid first impression on the new boss. I do think that Phil likes Iman, but you never know what’s going to happen with trade rumors because the NBA is a business and things change all the time. I think I’ll have a better answer for you in two months.”

Of course, Iman Shumpert is always at the center of trade talks and if he proves he is healthy, a team could make a run at him as the Knicks potentially try to clear cap for free agency in 2015.

Iman Shumpert put up 6.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 37.8% from the field, 33.3% from beyond the arc and 74.6% from the free throw line last season. Iman Shumpert has averaged 7.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 39.1% from the floor, 34.2% from three and 77.5% from beyond the arc in his three-year career.
