In what was an ugly game, the Miami Dolphins defense scored 14 points in a 27-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on NFL Sunday at EverBank Field.

If you didn’t watch the first half of this game you made the right decision. Both offenses struggled in their own way. The Miami Dolphins struggled to move the ball, gaining just 56 yards of offense the entire first half. The Jacksonville Jaguars, meanwhile, gained 219 yards of offense in the first half but couldn’t capitalize on scoring chances–having field goals blocked or turning the ball over.

The first quarter was rough. The Jaguars had a chance to take  3-0 lead after running back Denard Robinson tore off a 41-yard run, but Josh Scobee’s field goal was blocked by Miami defensive end Olivier Vernon. On Jacksonville’s next drive, they got into field goal range again but committed a hold which nullified the made kick. Out of field-goal range, they punted.

After a scoreless first quarter, Jaguars rookie quarterback Blake Bortles threw an interception to Dolphins safety Louis Delmas, who returned it 81 yards for a touchdown and the first score of the game. The Jags got on the board with a field goal on the next drive to make it 7-3.

After forcing a Miami punt, the Jaguars got the ball back with a chance to take the lead. On second-and-seven, Bortles scrambled for what would have been a first down before Dolphins linebacker Jelani Jenkins forced a fumble recovered by Delmas. That’s when Miami got going on offense. Tannehill found open receivers on a drive that ended in a Caleb Sturgis field goal to give Miami a 10-3 lead going into halftime.

The Jaguars defense forced a quick punt to start the second half but Bortles came back with his second pick-six of the game, getting intercepted by Brent Grimes while trying to find Cecil Shorts.

Scobee made a 40-yard field goal to bring the score to 17-6. The Dolphins offense had its best drive of the game at the end of third quarter. Getting the ball on their own five-yard line, the Dolphins went 95 yards to take a 24-6 lead after Tannehill found Rishard Matthews on a three-yard touchdown pass.

After a fourth quarter field goal by the Dolphins and a too-little, too-late touchdown by the Jags, the Dolphins won 27-13 to improve to 4-3 on the season. The Jaguars continue to struggle, falling to 1-7 in a game where both defenses dominated but a rookie quarterback just made a few more mistakes.
