Tony Romo was injured on Monday night during the Cowboys game with the Washington Redskins following a sack in the third quarter.

More from Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are 6-1 on the season and are considered one of the best teams in the NFL, and on Monday night against the Washington Redskins, Tony Romo and Dallas are looking to keep that momentum up with a win over their division rivals.

In the third quarter things were not going so well for Dallas, with the Redskins taking the lead on an Alfred Morris touchdown. When the Cowboys got the ball back, disaster struck for the Cowboys and Romo in particular.

Romo dropped back to pass on a third-down play and he was hit viciously, being dropped for the sack. The worst part of it all was the fact that Romo stayed on the ground, favoring that surgically repaired back.

This is devastating news, given the fact that Romo has returned so well from the surgery he needed on the injured disc this offseason. For most of the year he has shown no ill effects of the rehab, but he was hit pretty hard and awkwardly.

Romo was taken to the locker room for evaluation.
