The Buffalo Sabres recorded ten shots in their 4-0 road loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, which was the fewest shots in an NHL game since 2008.

So this is what rock bottom looks like. At least that’s what Buffalo Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers seemed to think after the team was dismantled in a 4-0 loss at Toronto. The score was bad enough, but it was the stat sheet that really raised eyebrows. The Sabres managed just ten shots in the loss compared to Toronto’s 37. It was the first time since 2008 that a team produced so few shots.

“That was an embarrassing effort,” Myers said via Chris Johnston of Sportsnet. Myers said the team hit ‘rock bottom’ with the loss. He’s not far off either. The Sabres have been the reigning worst team in the NHL since the beginning of the 2013-14 season and they only appear to be worse after gutting their front office last fall.

To put their performance in perspective, Adam Gretz at CBS compiled all the teams to tally ten or fewer shots since 1987, and the list was…slim to say the least.

Sabres fans can cast a glazed stare at that chart or they can just start playing eeny, meany, miny, moe with Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel because one of those two players will likely don a Sabres jersey this year. If Buffalo remains the worst team in the NHL, they will have clinched a top two pick in the 2015 draft. That will be about the only saving grace from what appears to be the second straight dreadful season in Buffalo.
