Gordie Howe’s son, Mark, told CBC that his father is slowly improving after a ‘pretty significant stroke’.

It’s hardly surprising to see the outpouring of well wishes for Gordie Howe after he suffered a stroke. Now it appears fans and colleagues alike have a glimmer of good news in return. Gordie Howe’s condition is improving, per his son Mark, a scout with the Detroit Red Wings. The family even released a statement on Mr. Hockey via the team.

Gordie Howe played nearly his entire career with the Red Wings while Mark has been a scout with the team for 20 years. The family had this to say via their statement through the team about their father’s slowly improving health.

"“The Howe family would like to thank friends, family and fans for your overwhelming well-wishes, prayers and support for Gordie. He suffered a significant stroke on Sunday morning while at his daughter’s home in Lubbock, Texas. His condition remains guarded although he is showing some signs of improvement. We acknowledge that there is a long road to recovery ahead, but Dad’s spirits are good and his competitive attitude remains strong.”"

Mark also recently discussed his father’s condition with CBC, via phone, and said, “It’s a difficult time for Dad,” Mark said from Lubbock. “It definitely impacted his life, so we’re dealing with this, I think, as all families do and just trying to be there. The best thing we can do is just be here and be supportive and try to keep him in good spirits.”

We wish a speedy recovery to one of the classiest ambassadors the NHL has ever known.
