The Purdue Boilermakers will be the next team to get a flashy new helmet in college football this Saturday, but this one gets patriotic.

College football changes up uniforms all the time, mostly to look cool for possible recruits. But every so often we get a uniform change that makes us smile.

According to Phil Hecken, the Boilermakers will be debuting a nice looking helmet in their home game against the No. 25 Wisconsin Badgers this weekend. Purdue probably shouldn’t be expected to win this weekend but with these, a win for Purdue is a win for America.

Instead of their schools official colors, the team is dressing out in these red, white and blue colors to honor the United Staets Military. Classy move, Purdue, classy move.

It’s not the first time the Boilermakers have used alternate helmets, though. In October they used alternates when they faced off against Michigan State to honor cancer survivors.

The Boilermakers, like quite a number of teams, have alternate helmets, but it seems they have been using them this year to honor specific groups. I like this idea instead of just wearing gold-chrome helmets just to do it, looking at you Baylor.

On another note, can we call the Boilermakers the Patriots for the week? Anyone?
