if your team is up 41-10 in the third quarter against an 0-9 team, you’d think if you were the backup quarterback on the team of the good end of that score, your chances of coming in are very strong.  That is, unless you are the Denver Broncos and your starting quarterback is Peyton Manning.

Brock Osweiler, Manning’s backup, went to go put his helmet on just before the end of the third quarter.  Problem was when he turned around to run into the game, Manning had already beaten him to it.  All Osweiler could do was throw his hands in the air.

Understandable though how Osweiler could be upset at the situation.  If I were the backup quarterback in that situation, I would have expected to go in on the happy end of a 41-10 blowout against an 0-9 team late in the third quarter.

I get Manning’s competitive spirit.  I get that’s what endears him to the Broncos and their fans but at some point you have to be smart about things.  Manning should have removed himself from the game at that point and coach john Fox should have known better.  No point in risking injury.  Not in a game like that.

For the record, Osweiler did get into the game in the fourth quarter.  The Broncos ended up defeating the Raiders 41-17.  For what it is worth though, it was very entertaining to see a backup player outwardly express their disappointment at not getting into a blowout came.  Pure gold.

Now of course, this incident brought out some reactions from around the league, like the one from former NFL star Randy Moss, who currently works with Fox Sports 1, that you can see on the next page.
