The Chicago White Sox are reportedly looking to add a right-handed starting pitcher, bullpen help, and a left-handed bat this MLB offseason.

The Chicago White Sox had some excellent individual performances in the 2014 season, with Rookie of the Year winner Jose Abreu at first base, another excellent season from Chris Sale, and a going away party all year for retiring first baseman Paul Konerko, but the team was pretty lousy in total. The White Sox apparently plan to address some of the glaring weaknesses on their roster this winter:

There’s a few catchers on the open market (and trade market), but the White Sox appear to be willing to at least start the season with Tyler Flowers, who had a bounce-back season in 2014, even if most of his value was with the glove (Fangraphs had him at 1.8 Wins Above Replacement, and most of that was due to his defense).

Luckily for Chicago, there’s a bunch of suitable right-handers on the markets, so the White Sox will have plenty to choose from, which is great considering Sale and Jose Quintana are the two best starters on the White Sox, and both throw left-handed.

The bullpen was a massive issue for the White Sox in 2014, and while much blame can be laid at the struggle to find a replacement for the traded Addison Reed at closer, Chicago’s bullpen was inconsistent all during the year, but bullpen arms are plentiful right now and easy to find.
