Dirk Nowitzki becomes the 9th all-time scorer in NBA history
On the same night where Kobe Bryant broke the NBA all-time record for most shots missed in a career, Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki has made his mark on the NBA record books.
After this jump shot, Nowitzki surpassed two-time NBA champion and former Houston Rockets center Hakeem Olajuwon to become the sole possessor for 9th place on the all-time points scored list.

Nowitzki surpassing Olajuwon couldn’t have come on a better shot: from mid-range, Nowitzki knocked down something similar to his trademark fadeaway.

The Smoking Cuban
Killing two birds with one stone, Nowitkzi propelling past Olajuwon on the scoring list also makes him the the highest scoring international player in league history, an impressive mark in it’s own right.
After the 2007 NBA playoffs, no one could’ve likely imagined the turn Dirk’s career has turned. Due to his playing style, many proclaimed Nowitzki’s playing style as one that couldn’t lead a team to a championship. Of course, he’d prove them wrong in 2011 when his Mavericks defeated the Miami Heat, with Nowitzki capturing the Finals MVP.
By the looks of it, Dirk doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. If he keeps up a reasonable scoring pace through the next three seasons, it’s in his grasp to end up a top-5 player for the time being. We’ll see.
