Matt Williams Named National League Manager Of The Year
By Hayden Kane
Washington Nationals‘ manager Matt Williams was named the National League Manager of the Year on Tuesday by the BBWAA as MLB awards season continues.
Would you ever choose Matt Williams to manage a game against Bruce Bochy? Let me answer that question for you, kind reader. You wouldn’t. As a matter of fact, we actually saw these two leading their respective teams against one another in this year’s playoffs. While a manager’s impact on the game only goes so far and is hard to measure, you would always choose Bochy as your manager.

Considering all of that, however, we should remind ourselves that Manager of the Year is a regular season award. So in one game, maybe Williams isn’t your man, but as a rookie manager he clearly did well to guide his team through the grind of the long season. Additionally, he managed some difficult locker room situations and a number of injuries to important players.
That good work earned Williams the National League Manager of the Year award, as voted on by the BBWAA, on Tuesday.
While they are dealing with another disappointment in the playoffs from this past season, the future is bright for Williams and the Nationals. This award is well-deserved for his work in his first season on the job.
