Supporting another cause this weekend, the Minnesota Gophers will wear helmets during their game against Ohio State, with decals raising awareness for epilepsy.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers come into Saturday’s game against the Ohio State Buckeyes fresh off of a 51-14 trouncing of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Sitting with a record of 7-2, Minnesota will be looking to knock off the 8th ranked Buckeyes in hoping to make a statement to the Big Ten. This Saturday, they will be doing so with another message being prominent as well.

Jerry Kill, the Gophers head coach, has suffered from epilepsy and it has been well documented amongst Minnesotans and Gophers fans. In somewhat of an ode to their coach, as well as raising awareness in front of what projects to be a large audience, the Gophers will sport an “Epilepsy Awareness” decal on the backs of their helmets.

Wearing the gold helmets this weekend, a purple decal will be place on each of the helmets to show support for the cause.

Just a weekend after wearing a “Thank You Veterans” decal in the win over Iowa, the Gophers to turn a cause that hits closer to home. With Jerry Kill having suffered multiple seizures since taking over as head coach of the Gophers, the players and team know this cause all too well.

Thus far this season, Kill has appeared to be in great health, and can likely attribute that to taking the time to get everything sorted out down the stretch last season. Limiting his working hours and getting extra sleep have both been things Kill has attributed to his new found coping mechanisms for his disease.

Ohio State and Minnesota are set to kick off on Saturday from TCF Bank Stadium at 11 am EST. The game will be nationally televised on ABC.
