Steve Smith: Carolina Panthers To Pay For My Vacation
By Cory Buck
Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith said he’ll use some of the money he got from the Carolina Panthers upon his release to pay for a bye week vacation.
Steve Smith is still a little stewed at the Carolina Panthers. At this point, that’s like noting that the wind still blows in the fall. When interviewed by Jim Rome on Showtime, Smith couldn’t help but take another dig at his former team, saying that his upcoming bye week vacation will be paid for with the money received from his last days as a Panther.

Jim Rome asks Steve Smith how he felt being labeled a ‘distraction’ to which Smith simply replies ‘a five million dollar check’. He then notes that he’ll use that final check received from the Panthers when he was released to pay for a nice vacation with his family. Oh, Steve Smith, never change.
The Panthers cut Smith this past offseason, which in and of itself was somewhat expected from the cap-strapped club, given that Smith’s play was sliding and the Panthers needed to stash money and cap space for the rest of their team. But when you cut ties with Steve Smith, you do so for life. Smith signed with the Baltimore Ravens, probably because he knew they’d play the Panthers this year, then proceeded to torch Carolina in their game this season.
The lesson, as always, is that you do not mess with Steve Smith. Ever. Under any circumstances. If you are hanging off a cliff and the only way to get back over the edge is to renounce your ties with Steve Smith, you will probably have better luck with the boulders below in the ensuing moments. Seriously, don’t mess with Steve Smith.
