4. San Diego Chargers

At one point just a few short weeks ago, the San Diego Chargers were one of the bigger surprises in the NFL and quarterback Philip Rivers was receiving quite a bit of MVP discussion. Now, the Chargers have lost three straight games and are just 5-4 on the season and hanging onto their playoff hopes. They will have a very favorable game against the Oakland Raiders this week to snap their losing skid, but they need to take advantage of it.

Rivers will need to come through in a big way and get the Chargers’ offense back on track. It’s likely that San Diego will have running back Ryan Matthews back this week, but that can’t be counted on as being a big addition as he has missed all but two games this year. The offense will need to get back on track against a weak Raiders’ defense, and the Chargers’ defense has to get back to making plays as well.

Oakland is currently the worst team in the NFL at 0-9, and the Chargers cannot afford to give them their first win. Derek Carr has quite a bit of talent, and he has a chance to have his way with the way that San Diego has played defensively over the past few weeks. The Raiders aren’t likely to come away with their first win this week, and the Chargers desperately need to get back on track this week to have any chance at making the playoffs.
