Rudy Gay Agrees To Extension With Kings
By Evan Massey
Rudy Gay has agreed to a three-year, $40 million contract extension with the Sacramento Kings who have been a major surprise to the NBA.
The Sacramento Kings have gotten off to an impressive 6-4 start despite the fact that they have choked two games away late that they should have won. Rudy Gay has been one of the main reasons for their success this season, and the Kings have rewarded him with a new three-year, $40 million contract extension, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Gay has been having a big season already this year with the Kings, and they have been very happy with his play as the number two option behind big man DeMarcus Cousins. If the Kings are going to continue their success, they need Gay to continue playing the way that he has been, and to continue being content with his role.
Through his first 10 regular season games this year with the Kings, Gay has averaged 22.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. He has shot 44.8 percent from the floor overall and 34.4 percent from behind the three-point arc. Those numbers show just how valuable he has been to the Kings, and his veteran experience and leadership has taken a major step forward as well with the young Kings’ team.
Needless to say, this deal was something that was going to happen regardless with the way that Gay has been playing. The Kings were a bit reluctant to give him an extension this past offseason, but they couldn’t afford to wait now. They strongly believe that they are a legitimate playoff contender, and there aren’t many small forward that can score and defend at the level that Gay has for them this year.
That being said, Gay can now focus on simply playing basketball rather than juggling the game with his contract negotiations. Sacramento is very happy with their roster moving forward, and they certainly look like they can contend with the better teams in the NBA so far. Expect to see Gay continue his impressive play, and for the Kings to continue playing good basketball.
