NFL: Jonas Gray, Most Surprising Performances From Week 11
By Evan Massey
3. Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals have been extremely disappointed with quarterback Andy Dalton this season after giving him a new deal, and he has yet to show that he can be the franchise quarterback that they have been hoping he would be. Yesterday against the New Orleans Saints, he threw for 220 yards and three touchdowns in a huge win on the road.
Dalton has the arm to become a more than average starting quarterback, but he has to improve above the shoulders to get there. The Bengals are now sitting at 6-3-1 on the season, and they are a legitimate playoff contender if they can play like they did against the Saints. He has the weapons to become one of the more dangerous quarterbacks in the league, but he has to put everything together and play smarter and make the open pass.
That being said, the Bengals still have a lot to prove moving forward. Defeating the Saints on the road is a big win, and perhaps that will be what Dalton has needed to get him going. He’ll have to prove that he can keep it up consistently though moving forward this season.
