In addition to the multitude of blue liners that have been in and out of the lineup for injury, newly re-signed centerman David Krejci has struggled to remain healthy all season.
It seems like nothing could be better news, then, that Krejci will skate with the Bruins in their game against the St. Louis Blues Tuesday night.
Before Boston fans get too excited, though, the bad news must be delivered: Krejci’s fellow top-six forward, Brad Marchand, will miss the game due to an undisclosed injury.
Krejci is projected to re-enter the lineup in his regular position on the first line, flanked by Milan Lucic and rookie Seth Griffith. This leaves the left wing spot on the team’s iconic second line, which features alternate captain Patrice Bergeron and Reilly Smith, empty in Marchand’s absence.
Although the Marchand scratch is upsetting, though, it was somewhat expected by fans who witnessed the team’s 2-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes Saturday night. The winger received extremely limited ice time in the third period of that game, although head coach Claude Julien has yet to confirm exactly what happened.
The Bruins have done an effective job maintaining depth on all four lines despite the multitude of injuries to start off the season, but it’s unclear as to what Marchand’s absence will do to the team. The Bruins have an undefeated record in games where he has scored so far this year.
