In the first signifigant MLB trade by the Los Angeles Dodgers since Andrew Friedman took over as team president, Friedman raided the cupboards of his old team, the Tampa Bay Rays, and picked up reliever Joel Peralta.

Andrew Friedman knows what he likes, and the new Dodgers president apparently likes reliever Joel Peralta, as the Dodgers acquired Peralta and minor-league left-hander Adam Liberatore from his old team, the Tampa Bay Rays, in exchange for right-hander Jose Dominguez and minor-league righty Greg Harris.

Peralta, 38, had been a member of the Rays bullpen since the 2011 season, and pitched quite well for the Rays from 2011 through 2013.

Unfortunately, he took a step back last season, and saw his ERA jump a run higher than in 2013 to 4.41, despite facing nearly 30 fewer batters in 2014.

Peralta still struck out 74 hitters last season (same as his 2013 total), and figures to be one of the Dodgers’ setup men for closer Kenley Jansen, and has a very team-friendly contract with team options paying him $2.5 million.

Dominguez was immediately added to the Rays 40-man roster, and figures to be a good bet to open the season in the Rays bullpen. The right-hander flashes a 100 MPH fastball and a good secondary pitch in his slider.

Harris was a 17th-round pick in 2013, and is considered a starting pitcher right now, though that could change for the 20-year old.

The Rays also designated longtime catcher Jose Molina for assignment, clearing a 40-man roster spot in the process.
