The Florida State Seminoles squeaked by the Boston College Eagles on Saturday, 20-17, helping starting FSU quarterback Jameis Winston stay undefeated in his collegiate career.
However, according to Fox Sports’ rules expert Mike Pereira, Winston should not have even finished the game.
At one point in the contest, the official was trying to get everything set, when Winston wanted to speed things up. At the time, the referee was in the way, so Jameis basically shoved him out of the way, not once but twice, so he could get the snap off. It was a move that was laughed off by the announcers, however Pereira didn’t find it funny at all.
Actually, according to him, Winston should have been tossed from the game.
"I’ve looked at this play several times, and in my opinion, Winston should have been penalized for shoving Webster not once, but twice. In fact, I feel he should have been ejected.Contact with an official can clearly lead to an ejection. Webster was doing his job, which was to hold the snap until the referee cleared him in this situation. Winston clearly pushes him out of the way so he can get the snap off. That’s a foul, folks."
In actuality, Pereira is probably right. One thing that you can’t do is put your hands on an official.
